Biodiversity spot brought about in a fortnight

Hello everybody,

I am very happy and excited to share that this July 2015 I with my father made a lake on our farm!

This area on the farm used to get water logged during the rains and nothing could be grown there. On the contrary all the wells in this area were dry so the farmers had to depend on rain water.

When we looked at this area on Google map, we realized that there were traces of rain water traveling from far area to this part of the farm, so we decided to dig a lake. Soon we came to know about the Balram Talab yojna initiated by the M.P. government, and applied for assisitance under it. We also travelled to some nearby farms to see the existing farm ponds.

This lake which measures 100ftx100ftx6ft was dug in four days – that was from 7 July to 11 July – and this Sunday, on 26th July, i.e in just 15 days, lake is full of water with fishes, tadpoles, snakes, insects, birds and there are lots of fireflies near the lake  ЁЯЩВ

Also the water level in the well has risen so much – all because of this lake…

I have also seen foxes, peacocks and deer in the village during summers, coming in search of water, and I hope this lake attracts a lot of biodiversity and also encourages other farmers to make small farm lakes… Thanks to Amitabh uncle who is always always there to guide and encourage us with water conservation initiatives like the lake and is always there for everything…

Attached are photos of the lake; in case they got lost along the way, you can find them here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8sY5vZfk1W5MnZMZnZ5ZkxRMkk
